Education

Marine Biodiversity by its very nature, is interdisciplinary.

It spans many sciences encompassing physical, chemical, biological, climate, geological and geophysical studies of the ocean. CMBC builds on the core strengths of Scripps scientists and integrates anthropology, history, economics, communications and political science into its Interdisciplinary PhD and Master of Advanced Studies in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation.

The PhD and MAS programs both begin with an intensive 10 week required course "Global Change, Marine Ecosystems and Conservation Policy," offered only in the summer session (previously listed as Introduction to Marine Biodiversity and Conservation). The fifteen unit course is available to a small number of qualified applicants as a Certificate  program if space is available. The next class begins June 30, 2008.
