Research Interests:
* Broadly: marine ecology, conservation biology, global change biology, ichthyology, plain old conservation, international development.
* Specifically: Currently, my dissertation research focuses on the relationships between rocky reef cryptic fish communities in the Gulf of California, Gulf oceanography, and human populations. I am interested in environmental variability over short time periods (individual tides) and small areas (individual reefs) and changes to this variability over long time periods (decades) and large areas (the Gulf). I am also interested in quantifying the effects to the Gulf of water use activities in the Colorado River watershed and demonstrating the importance of including the ocean and marine/coastal ecosystems in the international climate negotiation process.
Brief Bio:
I am from the great state of Georgia and attended the University of Georgia, where I obtained a degree in marine ecology. After graduation, I spent a year teaching high school biology and natural resource conservation and two years in Belize as a Peace Corps Volunteer for the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef Systems Project (MBRS). All of these experiences helped me decide to come to Scripps and study with CMBC. I recently completed a research fellowship with International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and look forward to working on environmental and marine policy, continuing research, and being involved in education in a similar capacity after completing my degree.
